website builders

all the things you need to know

do you want to build a website but don’t know where to start?

are the options overwhelming ?

do you get frustrated with not being able to make the website do what you want it to?

don’t have the money to pay someone thousands of dollars to build something for you?

are you pretty capable but just need someone to troubleshoot from time to time ?

don’t have the time to figure it all out ?

is it simply something you just don’t love doing?

i have always been extremely fascinated by websites and i get lost in time creating and designing websites. when i hit a roadblock, i get more motivated to figure it out than frustrated.

i have used a number of the most common website builders and here is my opinion and feedback on square space, wix and word press.

my number one

squarespace is my number one. it is by far is the most user friendly, intuitive website builder and has met all my business and client needs with no complaints.

pros

  • beautiful modern & professional templates

  • responsive designs that accommodates mobile devices

  • amazing customer service

  • helpful online resources

  • built in image editor

  • e-commerce

  • Free SSL certificate

  • Analytics & Reports

  • Ability to input advance coding

  • connect your email through g-suite

  • great for a simple website or a eCommerce store

  • best for image based websites

  • no storage or bandwith restrictions

  • integrated email newsletter

cons

  • No third-party widget marketplace

  • Can be restrictive with font, colors as you apply it as a theme throughout the whole site

  • choosing a template can be overwhelming, there are a lot of options that have their own features

  • no free hosting

  • a bit higher in cost than others

recommended for small businesses that don’t need a lot of complicated functionality and features, for those who want a beautiful image based professional website, for artist, designers, bloggers, photographers, videographers.

my second choice

wix would be my second choice. i definitely can see the benefits but i think i need to force myself to spend more time using it.

pros

  • free site option

  • easy learning curve

  • no coding required

  • fully hosted platform

  • drag & drop sit builder

  • free & paid apps

  • Free SSL certificate

  • connect your email through g-suite

  • great for a simple website or a eCommerce store

  • event registration, membership, online store

  • integrated email newsletter

cons

  • some say it’s very intuitive and easy to use but i find it hard to navigate compared to square space

  • no live chat but 24/7 phone support

  • not as “professional” looking as square space

recommended for businesses who need more functionality, and features versus looking for a beautiful image based website.

my last resort

wordpress would be my last choice. this one is good for people with advance coding experience.

pros

  • free option

  • great option for advanced users

  • open source builder

cons

  • must download page builders like DIV for more features

  • no drag-and drop functionality

  • limited customization of page layouts

  • counterintuitive

  • no image editing

  • steep learning curve

recommended for people who have some coding experience or has the patience to take the time to learn. i generally don’t recommend, it’s not worth the time when there are better options out there.

are you stuck, frustrated or just want to update your website and don’t want to or can't afford to pay a ridiculously amount of money.
