Joffre lake

attempted july 2018

joffre lake hike attempt. overdue for a epic fail; can't even be mad.

  • 3am wake up, shower and out the door by 330am, pick up kass by 345am
  • fill the car up, mcdonalds coffee stop fail, second stop coffee success.
  • en-route, pee stop in pemberton.
  • no signal, no one read the driving directions = missed a turn, drove an extra 50-61.7km to a dead end in a reserve.
  • back tracked and found joffre lake 262km later.
  • 8am arrival, 4 hours later, pouring rain, no proper rain gear.
  • we cannot leave without making the most of it, 3 minute walk to first lake.
  • J: go stand on that log completely submerged in water . K: okay!
  • Nairn waterfall pit stop, sun starts to come out, soaked sneakers = screwed.
  • 185km back
  • home by noon.

tips: read the driving directions, don't reply on cell service and GPS. prepare for rainy weather.

  • gradual uphill climb
  • lots of switch backs.

tip: the water is apparently colder than you think. remember, it's glacier run off.

Panorama Ridge

sept 2017

longest hike to date.

  • 30km and 1,520m elevation gain
  • 9 hours
  • 54,000 steps
  • 2 friends
  • one epic day
  • for the view.
  • worth it for the sore feet and bloody toes.

tips: wear proper hiking shoes? the downhill on the way back is a killer on the toes, bring snacks and lunch, pack layers and gloves, walking poles don't do sh**, when you want to give up- don't.

Meager Creek

hot springs sept 2017

My very first overnight hike; what an adventure and humbling experience.

  • 26km round trip
  • over 5 hours of hiking each way
  • natural hot springs, two sets of pools.
  • camping beside the river, fall asleep to the sound of rushing water
  • portable potties
  • only accessible by foot

tips: 4x4 car is recommended or you will be hiking even farther than you want, leave early enough so you aren't pitching a tent in the dark, hiking with camping gear is hard, bring lots of water or a water filter, pack enough food, don't forget a bathing suit, bring tea light candles, bug spray and toilet paper.
