nothing to do but eat & walk

fort myers + fort lauderdale

the long haul to florida, and realizing all I did was eat and walk. there is no easy way to get to florida so i tried to make the most of it.

the flight there.

  • 8am departure from Vancouver to Toronto

  • 455pm departure from Toronto to Fort Myers

  • Arrive at the hotel at 8:30pm est

  • 12.5 hours + 3 hour time difference

the flight home.

  • 235pm departure from Fort Lauderdale to Toronto

  • 830pm departure from Toronto to Vancouver

  • Arrive at home at 11pm

  • 11.5 hours + 3 hour time difference

  • the airport was PACKED with snowbirds going home

Apparently i am an extrovert on flights to and from florida, chatted with a nice woman the entire flight spending the week with a group of friends in florida and chatted with a man non-stop coming back from his winter home in florida with his service dog, toby.

Commuting from fort myers to fort lauderdale

  • 2 hour bus with our bus for $29 USD

  • pick up at Gulf University and drop off at fort lauderdale airport

  • pretty much empty bus and awesome driver, a local recommended to take the red bus. greyhound is usually packed.

Water Taxi in fort lauderdale

  • $28 USD for all day, hop on and off as many times as you want

  • $18 USD after 5pm until 10pm

  • must experience even if it’s just to take a nice ride on the canal like i did.

  • staff will tell you who owns which house and mega yacht.

fort myers

the best part of my time in fort myers was chilling by the pool and eating at the bistro inside the courtyard by marriott located in the gulf coast town centre.

Panera Bread

  • half sandwich and half salad combo - roasted turkey & avocado BLT & strawberry poppyseed salad with chicken

  • wanted something light but filling after a long day of travelling

the Bistro at the courtyard by mariott

  • mediterranean grain bowl

  • farm stand breakfast bowl

  • the food and service was so good!

Tropical Smoothie Cafe

  • chicken apple club on flatbread; bacon, kale and apple slaw, a smoked cheese blend & honey dijon

  • really enjoyed this wrap and would definitely eat there again.

Twin Peaks Restaurant

  • fish tacos & fries & green salad

  • had a really hard time finding a place to eat and finally picked something and didn’t realize the hidden meaning behind the restaurant name until i got there; great views for sure.

  • smoked salmon and avocado toast with roasted potatoes

  • hands down the best potatoes i have ever eaten.

Temple Street Eatery

  • Bún Rice Noodle Bowl

  • this was listed as one of the top places to eat in fort lauderdale, it was alright. big portions for the price.

Gran Forno bakery

  • Key lime tart

  • couldn’t leave florida without trying a key lime!

Fresh First

  • Western Omelette with a side of waffle

  • food was okay, service was amazing and loved the inspirational quotes all over the walls.
