with my brakes on

You must understand that it’s going to take a lot of people to get you there. It takes rejection and redirection. It takes loss, battles and resiliency. It takes hurt, pain, and healing. You don’t just show up at the top. You have to work for your growth

over a year ago on saturday march 10th 2018, i completed my first duathlon and it didn’t go as well as I had hoped.

no matter what gear, no matter how hard I pushed, and it didn’t matter if the road was flat, uphill or downhill - it all felt like I wasn’t moving and riding on two flat tires. I wanted to call it quits every single minute I was on the bike but I powered through and finished.

duathlon time

total time: 2:05:26 | 5k run# 1: 0:24:38 | 20k bike: 1:08:32 | 5k run #2: 0:28:35

olympic triathlon time

total time: 3:15:17 | 1.5k swim: 0:41:10 | 40k bike: 1:31:12 | 10k run: 1:02:55

difference of 23 minutes for 20k less.

i secretly beat myself up about “failing” and wondered how i could have struggled so hard on the ride until i realized that my front tire was not on properly and was flush against my brake pad.

i really hope i never make that mistake again..

and yes, it is over a year later and i am finally ready to relive the day i rode 20km with my brakes on.

t-minus 3.5 months until the 100km fraser valley fondo

let the training begin.
